A thought on the Honda Ridgeline...

The Honda Ridgeline has this bin inside the bed floor, sealed against the elements. It's for extra storage and also houses the spare tire. Seems like a decent idea at first...

Kinja'd!!!

...but what happens if you get a flat tire while hauling a load of mulch?

You're in deep shit.

Wait, that's a load of manure.

The manual recommends against getting flats while the bed is full.

I feel like the owners of Ridgelines will be more likely to have bags of mulch in the rear rather than 2 yards of mulch.

Just consider it a reward for buying a Ridge line.

Same thing you do if you are hauling 5 people's travel gear and your spare is under the floor, except with more messy. Also I should point out that if you get a flat, you are going to have to leave it on the side of the road anyway, since that high pressure spare isn't up to the load of a full bed.

Well, considering you can't unlock that bay without opening the tailgate in side-swing mode, it's a pain in the ass even before you get to the part where that bay fills with mulch.

Rancheros for years had a "ha ha you can't use this" space in the front of the bed that was over station wagon floorboards. Some people made them into storage boxes - same problem.

Or a reward for doing truck things in a Ridgeline.

The Honda Ridgeline is the truck I would buy if I were getting a "truck" for my wife. Is is a suburban hauler, not a legit PU truck. Use accordingly.

Well, let's say you had a load of cold beer in there for the tail gate! you and your friends would have to drink all of the beer to get at the tire and then call AAA to put it on for you and some other friends to drive you home.

I know someone who's actually a farmer and bought one. Hauling bagged stuff, small volume stuff, and he needed a big rear seat for a baby seat. The mileage didn't hurt, it can tow a little, and there are Real Trucks in the family for Real Jobs.

Ever seen a family get a flat tire on vacation and are stopped on the shoulder to change it? SHIT EVERYWHERE.

I assume it will look the same with this, only worse. Since you can put a lot more junk in it.

I seem to remember ElCs had the same thing going on.

The manual also recommends not putting anything in the bed.

Since I'm going berserk with modifications already on mine, I'm going to make that space accessible from interior, exterior, or both, because why the hell not?

I use my dad's Ridgeline a few times a year. There are a lot of positives to it...it's got decent economy, VERY smooth and comfortable to drive, very quiet, excellent build quality.. but yeah, I do worry about getting a flat tire when the bed is fully loaded.

Ha ha, just don't use the bed and you'll be fine. OR get a truck
